This is reference, not engineering

The tables, calculators and guides here are a reference for planning and estimating. They are not a stamped design, a structural calculation for your specific build, or a substitute for a permit review. A deck holds people up. Where load, soil, attachment or an unusual span is involved, have a licensed design professional look at it.

Code requirement

Your jurisdiction may amend the model code or adopt a different edition. Confirm with your building department before you cut.

Accuracy

We source figures from primary references and date them where they appear. Codes get amended, prices move weekly, and a table transcribed correctly can still be the wrong table for your jurisdiction. Check anything you are going to build on.

Liability

The site is provided as is, without warranty. We are not liable for loss arising from use of the material here. Where local law does not permit that limit, it applies as far as the law allows.
